background
I'm writing using an Excel app (Office 2013) inside that app , I have several links to folders on my computer / server, which I want to use from the app with the app.
I have tested the file protocol with a dummy HTML file using this link:
This works perfectly with opening the desktop folder. I also tested using a network drive, and it also works.
The problem
When I add this dummy link to an HTML page in my Excel web app, nothing happens by clicking on it. When I click OK -> Open, IE11 opens a new instance (which does not come from mailto:
link), and asks if I want to give permission. After the permissions, the folder is opened.
target
I want to make a single left click to open the folder location without the permission box, in the worst case, I open the user a dummy link during app setup I want to be able to and then by right clicking -> open
Question
How can I complete the goal here? Is the office just closing the link?
Update
I've found that the primary problem is that the site I'm hosting on the app was not a reliable site. Links using the File Protocol only work on intranets and trusted sites. So the only question is whether the office is trusting in the location or not.
The problem is the way the applications of that office work with a Manifest file with the Office Store. Is stored, and this is what users download. This is a server space that specifies the app developer, and this is where the app is served from. This is the place which should be added to trusted sites in IE.
hence the file protocol is clean To work as well, I'll need to include instructions with my app when I add my host server to the trusted sites domain, and I'll never have to change the domain. / P>
